Butternut Creek Watershed

This project was part of an Environmental Resources Engineering class where we were to learn about river restoration techniques, strategies and the processes within river corridors and watersheds, with an aim to begin to understand the complex relationships between ecology, hydrology, geomorphology and the hydraulic habits and capacity within these systems. As well as begin to understand the degradation pathways that many river systems are facing in our modern age. The EPA estimates that upwards of 50% of rivers in the U.S. are in 'poor ecological condition' or are dealing with some kind of impairment. This is alarming and these systems provide habitat, life giving water, aquatic habitat, they can work to mitigate flood events, and they provide intrinsic and spiritual value, they also offer their beauty and recreation opportunities to people everywhere.
